This is an amazing collection of not just dumpling recipes, but also drinks and desserts – which was a fun surprise! There’s also a few meals such as sesame noodles and clear soups, and a few full menus to try for a dinner party.

I’m a great lover of dumplings – mostly gyoza, but xiaolongbao and zongzi are fast favourites also. What I would have loved for this book to do would be list the recipes by both their untranslated name/s, so that a reader can then know how and what to order when they’re next travelling or dining out.

What I loved about this recipe book was the bright design, elegant and stylish photos, and the commentary that runs throughout the book which gave it that extra bit of heart. It also comes with instructions for how to freeze dumplings, making the idea of making dumplings at home much more attainable when you think you can spend an afternoon making a hundred or more, then slowly (or quickly!) make your way through them in the next few months.

Other bonus areas are the hints for where the reader may be going wrong – what to do if the filling is too wet, or why wrappers may be cracking. It also comes with handy facts, such as a dumpling pro can make 220 dumplings in an hour!

I’m also glad that the recipes weren’t overly heavy on seafood, which many dumpling books are recently. And having a secret to 10 minute dinners is all the rage right now – Jamie Oliver, eat your heart out!

Highly recommended, this is the best dumpling book I’ve seen, and I’ve seen a lot!
